Elizabeth Kharono, director of an NGO that helps rural women farmers in Uganda, speaking at an interactive forum on "Building Capacity among Global Rural Women," held 1 March 2012 at the United Nations offices of the Baha'i International Community in New York. Ms. Kharono said it was important to end the "invisibility" of women farmers. "There is a tendency not to see them as farmers," she said, because of persisting stereotypes that cast only men as real farmers.
