Suraiya Tabassum, Assistant Professor of Women’s Studies at Jamia Milia Islamia, spoke about her experience working with Muslim women who had limited formal education to understand their legal rights and feel more empowered to shape their futures.
“We realized that for the effects of our project to be enduring, we need to address their fundamental conceptions of the individual and society. In order to do this we started to use simple yet profound concepts and parables from various religious sources to convey to them the concepts of the spiritual nature of the human being and of the oneness of humankind, that they were all equal,” she said.
